Binary options today are being affected by the turmoil in foreign currency markets. We write about that alot and of course today is no different. Here’s what we see in today’s opportunity to make money. Welcome Back Euro Crisis, We Missed You So the European Central Bank has basically just loaded up the printing press with reams of paper to make new euros and has opted to buy up debt from the distressed PIIGS nations. Taking a page from the QE2 playbook they’ve decided that in order for the union to survive they need to smash down credit default spreads on the periphery debt. Of course the market response will be to happily collect the profits from the push back on the CDS rates and wait a couple of days for the market to die down so they can attack the next sovereign debt victim. Binary options make money today as we are on the lookout for intervention to pull the market out of its downswing. Although the Fed has been doing its level best to prop up markets we see the present lull between rounds of quantitative easing QE1 and QE2 as the source of the fall. Trading desks are using the lack of real bids in the market to push sellers into the market lower during the interim between rounds of Fed debt monetizing. If ever there were an indication that it is newly minted money that is driving markets upward and NOT investor confidence or economic forces, then the last couple of trading days were it. The market interaction is clearly evident in what is going on forex trading markets. Definitely seeing a strong push against the euro and into dollars today. Dollar strength as we all know is directly related to S&P 500 weakness. We missed on our binary options hedge and double yesterday however loss was mimimized because of the ability to create the two sided position with a small spread (the goldilocks zone). Markets didn’t end up falling in the zone yesterday but today is another opportunity. With the forex market appearing risk negative we’re going to be trying to establish a binary options put position while the markets are still positive, with the idea being we’ll close the binary hedge later in the day once we’ve created a gap of about 50BP between the put and call strike prices. It’s important for traders to take advantage of the bonus cash offers of the binary options trading websites. Using the bonus cash makes it possible to offset the frequent small losses associated with the binary hedge and double strategy. Options trading activity looking for small rise this morning with the rise in EURUSD, also risk forex crosses with AUD and NZL. Pre-market activity in these same risk currencies was weak so I expect a turn (and S&P 500 fall) early in the trading session. In afternoon activity we’re seeing a broad but relatively thin switch into risky forex market currencies. Doesn’t seem to me to be convincing. The market has reversed it’s earlier predicted losses however unless the forex market shift increases in conviction we still expect a modestly negative close. It’s tough to read a mixed market – overall day showing risk-averse but intra-day showing a little more risk tolerance. In past situations the overall day indicator has proven stronger.
